Mapping Cows is a risograph printed artist’s book depicting a collection of pencil drawings by Florence Lanxuan Liu. To express her love for cows and to explore how they are represented in different cultures, she started spotting cows and posting them on Instagram (@cowsinrome) on a daily basis while studying in Rome, Italy in January 2018. This hobby has stayed with her while she travels from city to city. “Trying to capture all representations of cows from macro to micro, literal to abstract; I never miss a single cow that passes by my eyes. Each cow carries a map on their skin while I carry a mind to map cows along the milky way.” The first edition of Mapping Cows consists of 16 cow scenes selected from 10 cities around the world from 2018 to 2021.
